Urumiel Ltd.

Our apicultural family company started running in 1974.

Some years later, in 1999 we founded  Urumiel Limited which is located in Trinidad – Flores , a small city in the south – the center of Uruguay, 200 Kilometers away from the capital  city, Montevideo.

As time went by, we managed to evolve, not only as a producing company, but also by adding a wide variety of apicultural products that we export to demanding markets such as those of Europe and USA.

Since 2002 we have exported propolis from our whole country (Uruguay), being widely accepted in the international market due to its good quality and high flavonoids content.

Urumiel  ltd. has currently reached a very high standard of production, enabling us to satisfy the demands of different customers.

To satisfy these demands we possess 5000 beehives in 140 apiaries which are in the most appropriate apicultural areas of the country: Flores, Río Negro, Colonia, Durazno, Tacuarembó and Cerro Largo.

Production and Commercialization

Our honey comes from many floral sources such as natural forest, clover, lotus and thistle. These are the main sources of white honey, but it can also be mixed with other plants like sunflower.

During the harvest season we can obtain different kinds of honeys with well-differentiated unique characteristics of colour and flavour.
Firstly, during spring and summer we have honey that characterizes by its extra light amber colour and a very smooth flavour.
At the end of the summer the flowering of native plants begins (carqueja and chilcas), that generate clear honeys resulting in healthy food with a perfect balance between quality and flavour. This is called polyflora honey.
During the autumn floration, we get Eucalyptus Honey from the North of the country. This one is a very different honey from its dark tone.

We have a specially-designed place for the extraction of honey approved by the quality standards in accordance with the European Economic Community requirements. Our extraction capacity of honey is of 600 kg per hour.
After extraction, it is poured into a decanting pit, then it is pumped to the tanks of homogenization, (25 and 15 tonnes), before being packed in drums of 300 kg.

We annually produce 150 – 250 Tons of honey.
And 80 – 100 Tons of Eucalyptus Honey.
